About me
Valerie joined Bowdoin as Director of Health Professions Advising in 2024. She brings draws upon her teaching experience to advise and guide students through their exploration, preparation for and application to not only medical schools, but dental, vet, PA, nursing and many other health professions. She previously served for 10+ years as Director of Bradley University's Health Professions Advising Center. Prior to that she spent almost a decade at Clarion University of Pennsylvania as a Biology professor and Chair of the department and their Pre-Professional Committee.She is an active member and have held multiple board and leadership roles for the National and regional Associations of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP, NEAAHP, CAAHP), and a lead advisor for the Hanley Center for Health Leadership and Education's internship program. She continues to learn new things about the world of healthcare.She moved to Maine along with her husband Tom and dog Roswell, from Peoria, IL although she's originally a Jersey Girl and learned to ski in Vermont. She loves winter and is happy to make Maine her new home.
